Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know exactly what’s wrong before scheduling?
No.
Some people arrive at Pathways Mental Health with a specific diagnosis or concern. Others simply know they’re overwhelmed, stuck, unhappy, or repeating patterns they don’t understand.
Part of counseling can be figuring out what is happening.
Does Michelle Dixon see children or teenagers?
Pathways Mental Health provides counseling for adults. Michelle Dixon specializes in adult mental health, adult ADHD, and substance use recovery.
What if I’ve been to therapy before?
That’s okay.
Previous therapy can give us useful information about what helped, what didn’t, what felt safe, and what you may need differently this time.
Will I have to talk about trauma immediately?
No.
You control what you disclose and when.
Building enough safety to discuss difficult experiences can itself be an important part of counseling.
How long will I need counseling?
There isn’t one answer that applies to everyone.
The length of counseling depends on your concerns, goals, circumstances, progress, and the kind of work you’re doing together.
Pathways Mental Health does not promise a predetermined timeline for healing.
Do you accept insurance?
Pathways Mental Health currently accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield and Lockard & Williams insurance plans. If I am not in-network with your insurance company, you may still be able to use your out-of-network mental health benefits to receive reimbursement for a portion of the cost of therapy.
For clients using out-of-network benefits, I can provide a Superbill. A Superbill is a detailed receipt for services that includes the information your insurance company typically needs to process an out-of-network claim, such as the type and date of service, diagnosis, and amount paid. You pay for your session directly and then submit the Superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Because every insurance plan is different, I recommend contacting your insurance company before beginning services and asking:
- Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
- Do I have an out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?
- What percentage or amount will my plan reimburse for an outpatient psychotherapy session?
- How do I submit a Superbill for reimbursement?
Please note: a Superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. Your insurance company determines eligibility, deductible requirements, reimbursement rates, and whether a particular service is covered under your plan.
Do you provide emergency services?
No.
Pathways Mental Health is an outpatient counseling practice and does not provide emergency or crisis services.
Do you provide DOT SAP evaluations?
Yes.
Michelle Dixon is a qualified Substance Abuse Professional and provides SAP evaluations for individuals navigating the DOT return-to-duty process.
